It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of William James Charles Hook, known to many as Jim Hook, on June 24th, 2025, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, with his family by his side.
Jim was born and raised in Flin Flon, Manitoba, where he lived most of his life. Jim is survived by his wife Donna Marie (nee Firman), his brother, Robert, his children Shelley, Carla, Jamie, Brian, and Lisa, his granddaughters Brooke Hook, Olivia Webber, and Paislee Webber, and his great-granddaughter Nina Guttormson. Jim will be deeply missed by his cousins, nieces, nephews, and all who knew him. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Victor Hook and Jean (nee Dempson), and sisters Beatrice Rose and Patricia.
Jim was a dedicated and hardworking man who spent many years working for Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting, where he built a strong reputation and lasting friendships. After retiring from HBM&S, he continued to lend his skills to other mines at Cigar Lake and Rocanville, Saskatchewan, demonstrating his commitment to a lifetime of honest work.
Jim had a deep love for the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. Jim enjoyed as much time as possible at the family-built cabin on Lake Athapap, in the bay next to Paradise Lodge. The cabin was built through the hard work and determination of his parents, Jim, and other family and friends. For the family, it was a true legacy that brought everyone together and became the heart of many cherished memories. Jim never stopped working on the cabin. He was always improving, fixing, or building something, pouring his heart into a place that meant everything to him. He enjoyed ice fishing with friends and acquaintances. He often would plow ice roads to provide them access to their shacks.
He will be remembered for his unforgettable laugh—one that often echoed throughout the cabin or off the deck out into the bay. A laugh that stayed in our hearts long after the moment passed.
His strength, quiet wisdom, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
To honor Jim's wishes, there will be no funeral service.
In the near future, the family will hold a private interment.
A celebration of life to honor Jim will be held at a later date.
Cherished Memories is honoured to be entrusted with the care and arrangements for William Hook.
