We are sad to announce the passing of Willem de Jong at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, after a short but valiant battle with cancer. He passed surrounded by his family who will miss him deeply.
Willem was born in Deep River, Ontario. In school, he took French immersion and was very involved in the outdoor activities that the area offered, camping, white water canoeing, and cross-country skiing. With the Air Cadets he became a glider pilot, just days before leaving Ontario to Saskatoon with his family in 1999. The following year he also received his pilot’s license with Air Cadets.
He went to the University of Saskatchewan for a few years, but academic life was not for him. Instead, he found his role helping others in technical and IT support with several companies before joining the IT support group in the medical college at the university. He also enjoyed performing in local dinner theatre and then with the No-No’s improv group. Around this time, he met Alanna who became his best friend and wife. Later, after his daughters were born, there never was a more dedicated and loving father.
He will be sadly missed by his dear wife and closest friend Alanna de Jong (Mergen) and his young daughters, Hazel and Margot. Willem was the son of Mark de Jong and Mary Rowan and the older brother of Michael and Klaas. He was predeceased by his sister Maaike. Left to mourn him are his grandmother Marguerite de Jong (Ahier) and his many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Memorial will be held on November 22, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Cherished Memories, 591 Centennial Drive North, Martensville, Sk.
Cherished Memories Funeral Services is honoured to be entrusted with Mr. Willem de Jong's care and arrangements.
