Terrance (Terry) Lynn Bendel

September 14, 1964 — April 5, 2024

It's very fitting that around 4:20am, Friday, April 5, 2024, Terry (Beny) was released from all his pain and suffering.

Terry was born and raised in Saskatoon, by single mom Elaine with help from Grandma and Grandpa Bendel at the farm just north of Martensville. Terry was the little brother for his aunties, until he became the big brother to Tammy. Terry attended Westmount Elementary School and Mount Royal Collegiate.  Terry's youth revolved around hockey in the winter and lacrosse in the summer, where he played the position of goaltender for both sports. Terry was lucky enough to attend the Jeux Canada Games for lacrosse in his teen years and continued playing hockey until Rugby was introduced into his life.
A member of The Krems RFC starting around 1984, he was a Hooker for the team, until he retired from playing, and moved on to being a referee. Terry was a crucial member in finding a new pitch and the building of the Rugby Clubhouse and moving from Gordon Howe park to the pitches on English Crescent. Terry played Rugby with passion. Maybe too much passion, getting fouls from the referees while on the pitch and off. When the clubhouse wound up without someone to care for it, and the pitches, Terry stepped up and ran the clubhouse and did the landscaping at the fields. Terry, whether  playing or spectating, was always a Krem; a team where he met some of his closest friends and chosen family.
Terry was employed with the City of Saskatoon for 40 years until he retired in 2020, after his first amputation. The majority of Terry's career was driving the Zamboni (mostly at the Cosmo Civic Center) and when the city no longer used the rink during the summer, Terry drove the train at Kinsmen Park for a few summers, worked at Silverwood and Holiday Park Golf Courses, until he moved to the Treasury department and became a meter reader, the position from which he retired. Right up to his passing, Terry's passions in life were Rugby, the Montreal Canadiens, and his Saluki's, all of whom he has been reunited with.
Surviving Terry, is mother Elaine Bendel (Dwight McFadyen) his best friend, sister Tammy McLean (Desmond) niece and special buddy Raelyn McLean, nephew Dallas McLean and his aunties Susan (Len), Barb (Chuck), Fran (Jim) and Marlene (Wayne) and Uncle George (Kathy), his Bendel Family cousins, his closest friends and of course his brothers of the Krems Rugby Alumni.
Terry was predeceased by his grandparents Lawrence and Marjorie Bendel, with whom he will be lain to rest. Internment to take place at a later date.
A Celebration of Terry's life will take place on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the Osler Community Hall, beginning at 2pm.
We want to thank the Emergency Staff at RUH, Dr. Kanthan and staff in General Surgery and a special thank you to the nurses in the Surgical Unit (Matthew, Rachelle and Michelle) who made Terry comfortable in his final hours.
