Sheila Marie
Byrne
December 15, 1943 – April 11, 2026
Sheila Marie Byrne passed peacefully at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon on April 11, 2026. She is survived by her daughter, Maya Tapper McAnaw; Maya’s husband, William Tapper; her much-loved grandchildren, Dexter and Oliver; and her life partner, William Musick.
Sheila was born on December 15, 1943, in Parry Sound, Ontario, on the shores of Georgian Bay—an area she deeply loved and returned to often throughout her life. She graduated with honours from the University of Toronto and later earned her master’s degree from Queen’s University. Following her studies, she taught Theatre Arts and English at Gordon Graydon Memorial High School, where she brought stories to life by producing and directing numerous plays.
With a strong sense of adventure, Sheila was soon bitten by the travel bug. Alongside her late sister, Colleen, she explored the world, spending time in Amsterdam, India, Bali, and Thailand. It was during these travels that she met her future husband, Jamie McAnaw, with whom she had her daughter, Maya.
Sheila eventually returned to Canada, where she built a dynamic and successful life—launching several businesses and becoming an accomplished real estate developer in both Canada and the United States. She carried her love of travel, creativity, and independence into every chapter of her life. She spent the majority of her later years in her favourite place, Cottonwood, Arizona.
Sheila will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her strength, her creativity, and the deep love she held for her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the memories she leaves behind.
Cherished Memories Funeral Services is honoured to have been entrusted with Sheila's care and arrangements.
