Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Ron DeLuca announce his passing in the evening hours of Monday, April 6th, 2026, at age 76. He had family at his side at St. Paul’s Hospital and is now in the arms of the Lord, at peace and pain free.

Ron, or Ronnie, as his friends and family would call him, was born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan on December 29th, 1949, to Elsie Grundmann (McDavid) and Elio DeLuca. He was the eldest of two children.

Left to mourn are his wife, Jeannie Deluca, his children, Cameron Deluca (Sandy) and Carla DeLuca-Kroeker (John), grandchildren, Dylann Deluca, Presley Deluca, Isaac Kroeker and Aven Kroeker. As well as his sister, Glenda DeLuca, and many cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Ron can be remembered by his welcoming charm and the cheerful smile in his eyes. He was a ‘people person’ who enjoyed meeting new folks and sharing conversations. His outgoing nature meant that he rarely walked into a room without recognizing someone or being recognized.

He was very active in his younger years with activities including weightlifting, playing baseball, waterskiing, downhill skiing, fishing, golfing, and his ultimate favorite activity of hunting which he enjoyed doing with family and friends. When he was at home, he could often be found working in the yard, where he would always look forward to the return of the Purple Martin birds, or in the garage with the Bluejay game on the TV. He had a love for classic cars, and he was known for keeping his vehicles in pristine condition along with other items he owned. He also had a love of birds and could identify each one without fail.

Ron had very fond memories of the family farm near Meskanaw, SK where he lived with his aunt, uncle, cousins and grandmother from the age of fourteen. He would often share many cherished memories with his loved ones about his joyful years living there. He continued to visit the family farm where he found much peace and comfort.

Ron was a very hard worker and was always very dedicated to his employment. When he was a young man, he worked seismic in Alberta, Saskatchewan and into the United States. He would often speak about where he worked and refer to the beauty of each place. Shortly after, he worked in hospitality services managing hotels, lounges, restaurants, then moved into food services, which he retired from in 2016.

In 1971, while working in Yellow Creek, SK, he met Jeannie. They married on July 7th, 1973, sharing 52 years together. Together they had two children, Cameron and Carla, and started their life together residing at Wakaw Lake, Saskatoon, and finally settled in Martensville in 1980 where they lived for their remaining time together.

Ron was a well-respected man who fought a tough fight until the end. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed in his late forties with Multiple Scleroses, which forced him to slow down in many of the activities he loved doing, but he was determined to enjoy them until he absolutely could not any longer. Although his body slowly gave out on him, his mind surely did not. His sharp mind persevered, and we would still rely on him for facts and memories right up until his last days. He spent the last nine months residing at the Warman Mennonite Special Care Home where he looked forward to visits from loved ones and shared many meaningful conversations with the staff who carefully looked after him.

Ron will be missed deeply by many people, but he was ready to let go from the pain and move onto Heaven. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Warman Mennonite Special Care Home for taking the time to care for him both physically and emotionally.

A graveside service will be held on June 6th, 2026, at Little Moose Mission Church Cemetery, followed by a gathering at the family farm. Family and friends attending can meet at St. Brieux Catholic Church at 1:00pm for directions to Little Moose Mission Church Cemetery.

Until we meet again, we love you.
