Raymond Herman Freyling, aged 85, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026, at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK, surrounded by family.

He was born in Humboldt, SK, on August 12, 1940, to Martin and Antonia (née Frenzel) Freyling, and grew up on the family farm with his four brothers and three sisters. He attended school in Annaheim, where he loved playing baseball - often riding his bike into town to play until dark before riding back home. He later attended St. Peter’s College in Muenster, where he took part in school plays and drama productions. Following high school, he completed an accounting program and went on to study at Mount Royal College in Calgary, graduating in 1994 with a CIM designation from the Canadian Institute of Management.

Ray married Lorraine Hoffman on October 2, 1982, at Dovre Lutheran Church in Spalding, SK, and was later confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Regina on May 6, 1984.

He spent 45 years working in the brick industry with I-XL Brick Supplies—a career that began in Regina, took him to Calgary, and eventually brought him back to Saskatoon in 1996.

In retirement, Ray carried forward his love of sports by cheering on his grandchildren at their soccer games. He enjoyed reading, camping, and travelling, with memorable trips to China, the Maritimes, and Alaska. Known for his warm yet competitive spirit, Ray cherished playing cards and games with his grandchildren, and he was famous for making his signature homemade German pancakes specially for them.

Ray leaves to mourn: his wife, Lorraine; his son Jeff (Megan) and their children Mya, Jace, and Jett; his son Brad; his daughter Cheryl (Jeffrey); granddaughters RaeAnne (Nick) and Taylor (Marcia); his great-grandchildren Rory and Silas; his brother Jerry; his sisters Frieda and Sally; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and dear friends.

Ray is predeceased by his parents Martin and Antonia; his brothers Ed, Joe, and Leo; and his sister Doris.

Ray’s family extends their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff who cared for him at Royal University Hospital. Deepest gratitude is also offered for the kind thoughts, support, and pastoral visits during his stay, and to everyone who assisted with the funeral arrangements.

Interment will take place at a later date at the Clearview Cemetery (Spalding District) in Spalding, SK.
