Obituary

Norman “Norm” Arthur MacQuarrie (71) passed away at home on May 17, 2026 after battling lung cancer for almost 3 years. Born April 18, 1955 in Loch Broom, Pictou County, Nova Scotia son of the late William “Bill” Tingley and Gladys Edith (nee Pearce) MacQuarrie. He leaves to mourn his four children Kimberly (Rob Kopp) of Calgary, AB, Jennifer Newman of Victoria, BC, Duncan (Courtney) MacQuarrie of Borden, SK and Rebecca Bussa of Edmonton, AB. Two brothers Ricky MacQuarrie and Peter (Sherry) MacQuarrie, two sisters Judy (Moe) Beatch and Dawn MacQuarrie (Jack Robertson). As well as 9 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by one grandson.

Norman received his Carpenty Trade Certificate in Nova Scotia on February 23, 1976 and shortly after he traveled out west to Saskatoon Saskatchewan in February 1977. One major project he helped work on was the Circle Drive Bridge in the early 1980’s.

Upon setting roots down in Saskatoon, Norman started building a house on Thain Cres. During that process he heard about a concrete guy over on David Knight Cres and went to ask to borrow some concrete forms for his basement. That was the start of a 40+ year working relationship with Dan Elash (D.W. Elash Enterprise) doing commercial foundations. Norman and Dan worked across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and even up to Whitehorse in the Yukon. Norman was highly respected across the building industry for his ability to think outside the box and come up with solutions to difficult and complex problems. He loved his work and threw 100% into everything he did.

Norman was passionate about donating blood and was a regular donor at the Canadian Blood service for 30+ Years. He was also a provider, always making sure no one went without and generous. Showing up to celebrate other peoples achievements any chance he got.

A celebration of life and gravesite service will be held at a later date, where he will then be laid to rest at Heatherdale Memorial Gardens in Westville, NS. Donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Blood Services.

Cherished Memories Funeral Services is honoured to be entrusted with Mr. Norman MacQuarrie's care and arrangements.
