Obituary

We announce with heavy hearts the passing of Muriel Grace Olson, age 90, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, who went to her eternal home on February 26, 2026.

Muriel was born on December 1, 1935, in Southey, Saskatchewan. Her life was marked by deep love, compassion, and an unwavering faith in God. Though her passing leaves a great void in the hearts of her family and friends, they rejoice in the legacy of faith and devotion she leaves behind.

Muriel attended school in Southey, Saskatchewan, completing Grade 8 before beginning work on the farm. At 18 years of age, she began working at Sears, where she met the love of her life, Harold. They were united in marriage on April 9, 1955, and together built a life rooted in love, family, and dedication, with faith becoming a guiding cornerstone in the years that followed.

While raising six busy children, Muriel devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family. She tended a large garden that helped feed them all, a true reflection of her nurturing spirit and tireless work ethic. She was gifted musically and could play by ear. She especially loved playing the accordion, organ, and violin. Even when arthritis limited her hands, she continued to play the organ as long as she was able. Muriel faithfully used her musical gifts to serve in her church community.

On February 28, 1982, Muriel was baptized upon confession of her faith at Faith Alive Ministries, a meaningful milestone in her spiritual journey.

Following Harold’s retirement in 1997, Muriel and Harold, along with their daughter Debbie, moved to Medicine Hat. In the winter of 2020, Muriel and Debbie returned to Saskatoon to be surrounded by loved ones and receive the support they needed. Being closer allowed Muriel to spend precious time getting to know her grandchildren more deeply. She truly enjoyed life to the fullest, surrounded by those she loved.

Muriel is lovingly survived by her six children: Wayne (Lorraine) Jarret, Jace, Tiffany (Brian), Harley (Megan), Marielle (Alex), Debbie, Diane (Rob), Tanya (Darin), Wendy (Doug), Kerri (Aaron), Cindy, Sharon (John) Crystal (Sydney), Candace (Rod), Kendra (Aaron), Delea (Jonathon), Donna (Pat), Sheldon (Chelsea), Shantel, Shania (Dave), Warren (Donna); Samantha (Randy), Kimberly (Brian), Nicolas and 41 great-grandchildren: Kenna, Kace, Lily, Logan, Emily, Landon, Andrew, Korissa, Jesse, Prestley, Ainsley, Declan, Kessler, Kanye, Kaison, Ariana, Connor, Noah, Taya, Raina, Raiden, Summer, Ryder, Ashton, Easton, Everly, Levi, Harper, Lincoln, Connor, Braylon, Griffin, Rory, Sara, Will, Coen, Makenna, Piper, Katie, Ty, and Estell.

Also survived by brother Edgar Yantz, half sisters, Bev Shultz, Brenda Zadarozniak, and Kim Reddekopp.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harold (2008), her granddaughter Kayla, and numerous sisters, brothers, and in-laws.

In her final days, Muriel often spoke of her longing to meet Jesus and be reunited with Harold and Kayla. She would tenderly say she would “soon see Daddy.” Her prayers were answered when she passed peacefully in her sleep on February 26, 2026.

She will be forever missed, deeply loved, and never forgotten.

The family has chosen to honour Muriel’s memory with a celebration of life to be held on July 25, 2026. More details will be shared in the coming months. All who knew and loved her are warmly invited to join in remembering and celebrating the joy, faith, music, and love she shared so freely.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to palliative care at St. Paul’s hospital whose compassionate care meant so much in her final days.

Cherished Memories is truly honoured to be entrusted with the care and arrangements for Murial Olson.
