Marvin Mark Gerbrandt

June 2, 1948 — April 5, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, Marvin. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

He will be greatly missed by his son, Shane (Marlee), daughter, Heather (Ted) and his grandchildren, Tyler, Caly, Pierce, Ella and Vesper. He is predeceased by his parents, John and Netha, sister, Caroline and brother, John.

Marvin was born on the farm just outside of Carrot River, Saskatchewan on June 2, 1948.   He grew up in the area with his brother, John and his sisters, Caroline, Beth, Marilyn, Myrna and Donna.

Growing up in Carrot River at that time, one would have found themselves surrounded by wilderness and farmland.  Dad grew up working on the farm, until they moved into town when his dad gotten a job with the sawmill.  Dad learned to hunt and fish and enjoy the outdoors with his dad, brother and cousins.  Skills that he later passed on to his children and grandchildren when we would go on camping, fishing and hunting trips.

As a young man he moved to Saskatoon on his own, which highlighted the adventurous spirit that was one of his characteristic traits.

He eventually started his career with Saskatchewan Parks. A career that spanned multiple decades.  This decision led him on an amazing path which went right along with his love of the outdoors, fishing and hunting.  The department that he worked for may have changed its name every few years, but his job was the same.  Taking care of parks, manage wildlife and help enhance services and facilities wherever he worked.  Throughout his career,  he had the opportunity to transfer to different parts of the province. This could happen frequently at the start of his career, but he was always quick to make friendships that lasted his lifetime.

During his time with the Saskatchewan Government, he had the opportunity to obtain his Private pilots license which he did to further enhance his career.  Also because he had a great fascination with aviation.  He took great pride in being able to take coworkers, friends and family for flights throughout different areas in Saskatchewan.

Another part of his career that he excelled at was looking after our forests when forest fires would start.  It a challenging part of his job that required a great deal of knowledge and skill.  Dad not only accepted all the responsibility of this, but was extremely successful in this duty.

When dad finally retired, he had been with the department for over 30 exciting years and had made a huge number of friends that will miss him dearly.

A Memorial will be held for him on a future date in his home town of Carrot River where he will be laid to rest with his family.
