We are sad to announce the passing of Marlene Banda on July 17, 2026, at the age of 60. Marlene was surrounded by love in her last days by her sisters Deb and Gerri and by her best friend Audrey.
Marlene was raised near Martins Lake and the family moved to Saskatoon, SK in 1973. She attended St. Goretti School and then graduated from E.D. Feehan in 1983.
Marlene worked at several jobs over the years but loved her recent job for One to One Courier the most. She loved her clients that she saw every day and developed friendships over the years that she really treasured.
Marlene’s cancer battle started a year ago. She had radiation, chemo and brachytherapy, all with the hope that she would eventually be cancer free. At the end of May this year, the cancer was back and she received a terminal diagnosis. She faced it with strength and courage. Cancer can change a lot about a person but it never changed her great sense of humour, her sarcastic wit or the strength of her friendships. Her tribe, including the Goretti Girls, surrounded her with love and support to the end.
Sincere gratitude to Marlene’s cancer team, led by Dr. Vicky Martin and Dr. Kate Johnson. Their dedication and sincere care made this difficult journey a little easier. Special thanks to Dr. Sathi for her care and support. To Dr. Johnson and the team at Glengarda, thank you for caring for Marlene when she needed you most, and providing her with kind and caring palliative support.
Marlene joins the family who went before her, including her Mom and Dad, Steve and Lucille Banda, her siblings Ralph, Diane, Eileen, Harold and Judy.
At Marlene’s request there will be no service.
Marlene was a cat lover and was grateful to find a new home with a dear friend for her therapy cat Lacey. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marlene’s name to SCAT Cat Rescue at P.O. BOX 31041, Saskatoon, SK, S7H 5S8 OR to Hospice at Glengarda, online at https://sphfsk.ca/hospice/donate/ or by mail to St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation, 1702 – 20th Street West, Saskatoon, SK, S7M 0Z9.
Cherished Memories Funeral Services is honoured to be entrusted with Ms. Banda's care and arrangements.
