Margaret Ruth
Newton
Apr 14, 1956 — Jul 9, 2026
It is with extreme sadness that the family of Margaret (Maggie) Ruth Newton shares the news of her sudden passing on July 9, 2026. Mom was born April14 1956 to Robert & Elsie (Marjerison) Newton in the city of Saskatoon. She was born in the city, and although she loved growing up on the farm, she could see the city from their farm at the far end of now 8th St. She so wanted to attend school there rather than the long bus ride to Clavet Composite School, where she finished her grade 12. Mom eventually moved to the city and worked in industrial sales for much of her working life, always in some sort of sales and customer service. Over the years she gained many good friends along the way.
Mom was known to be honest, sometimes to a fault, kind, loving, family oriented, and was a beautiful lady, physically and spiritually. She had a heart of gold, often going out of her way to help others, including family, friends, and often complete strangers, always watching out for the underdog.
Mom is survived by her soul mate and husband Gary Ahrens, fur baby Jesse. Daughter Anna Niessen, and her children Kiera, Austin (son Isaiah), Elise; son Kris (Kim) Niessen and his daughters Sydney (Sam- son Oliver) and Alexis; as well as Gary’s sons Shaun (Brittney- son Hudson), and Brad. Her sisters Bobby Newton, and Lorna McKenzie, as well as Gary’s siblings in Edmonton and Newfoundland. She was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Canada and the U.S., and special friends Carol, Dwayne & Kelly, Murray, Warren & Joyce, Corrin & Darren, and Ken & Donna, to name a few.
Mom was predeceased by her parents Robert (Bob) & Elsie Newton, and special niece Malaura Kelsey.
Mom was an avid animal lover, predeceased by a list too long to name them all, but Freddy, Dolly, Sparky, Dixie, Cochese, and Trixie are a few of them.
The family would like to thank BR staff (especially Cindy, Megan, and Dean), first responders, doctors, nurses, and social workers at RUH for their kindness and compassion during a devastating time. As per mom’s wishes, she will be cremated, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Contact daughter Anna at a_niessen@yahoo.com to be added to the email update. In lieu of flowers please think of New Hope Dog Rescue or the Parkinson’s Foundation at RUH headed by Dr. Rajput’s son who cared for her mom for years. Special thanks to Janet from Cherished Memories for all her guidance, and dignity shown to mom and our family.
Cherished Memories Funeral Service is honored to be trusted with Margarets service and funeral arrangements.
