Louisa Reddekopp (Marchant)

June 7, 1968 — March 17, 2024

Louisa was born on June 7, 1968, in Vancouver B.C. She was a Tsimshian native from the Lax,  Kw ‘alaams band, translating to “place of the wild roses.” As a toddler, Louisa was taken from her home and placed with another family during an event we would later learn to refer to as “the sixties scoop.”

Though her childhood was difficult, Louisa grew to be an incredible woman. She became the proud mother to her son Cary (1986), and daughter Lacey (1988). In 2000 she married her true love, Brian Reddekopp, and together they had a daughter, Ireland (2001). She was absolutely elated to become a grandmother to Selena in August of 2021.

Through her years, Louisa lived in all three of Canada’s western provinces, eventually settling with Brian in the small town of Rosthern, Saskatchewan.

Louisa was very loved by everyone she knew. She was an amazing listener, who always had time for her friends and family. She was a natural caregiver, who enjoyed caring of those around her – giving the best hugs and amazing advice. Though she’d experienced a lot of trauma through her life, Louisa remained young at heart, dressing up for Halloween, throwing fun parties, and decorating her home for every holiday, cooking the best meals and making sure that everyone who came to her home felt loved and welcomed.

Louisa spent a great deal of time researching and learning about the history and roots that were lost to her through the sixties scoop. She found great comfort in the traditional indigenous rituals and medicines. She was also able o take one last trip to her birthplace last fall, along with her family.

She deeply loved her family, and through her desire to nurture them with natural and healthy products, she developed her own recipes for self care products such as soaps, salves, sprays and oils. Her passion for this became her company, Fire Moon Soap Co. She successfully distributed products to customers all across Canada.

Louisa loved to garden, growing stunning flowers and nourishing produce – which she would turn into relishes, jams, and more that she would generously share with her friends. She had the most contagious laugh, and a warm and courageous soul. She always encouraged us to live our best lives, and to always do our best – never settling for less than we deserved or were capable of. She loved the mountains, a hot cup of tea, an evening around the campfire, and the perfect rainstorm.

Louisa is survived by her husband Brian, son Cary, daughters Lacey and Ireland, and granddaughter Selena. Nephew Brian (Jennifer, Scarlett) , niece Raquel, nephew Murray.

She will be immensely missed by everyone in her life, leaving a tremendous hole in the lives of her family.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Cherished Memories is honoured to be entrusted with Louisa's care.
