Obituary

With heavy hearts, the family of Joy Miller announces her passing on October 12, 2026 at the age of 89. Joy was born on June 24, 1937 and lived a life grounded in love, hard work, and deep devotion to the people she cherished.

Joy was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Eva Holdner; her husband Charlie; and her sons Doug and Darwin. She is also predeceased by Charlie’s parents, brothers, sisters and their spouses. Though she experienced profound loss, she kept going in her own determined way and was always ready to share a memory.

She leaves behind a large family who will forever hold her close: daughter in law Laurie; children Clayton (Tammy), Patti (Dave), and Jason (Rachelle); grandchildren Nicole (Ryan), Dani, Dusty, Stephanie (Travis), Justin (Elysha), Preston (Bree), Ryan, Kelcie (Austin), Kenzie, and Charlie; and great grandchildren Reanne, Chloe, Hannah, Madyson, Taya, Parker, Jordyn, Liam, Hudson, Thea, and Jace. Joy is also survived by Charlie’s remaining sister and brother and their spouses, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Each one held a special place in her heart, whether they lived near or far.

Joy’s life was shaped by the farm and the cattle they tended with care. She spent many years running the café in Young. She loved the simple pleasures - hours spent bowling, quiet moments with a word search, and most of all, visiting with family and friends, including her treasured Fridays with her daughter. Whether in person or over the phone, Joy valued connection. Her conversations were steady, familiar, and full of warmth and laughter.

Joy will be remembered for her stubborn nature, her fierce independence, and her deep affection for her Ilarion community, whom she missed dearly during her hospitalization.

Her family takes comfort in knowing she is reunited with those who went before her, and that her memory will continue to shine on in the lives of all who loved her.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:30pm on Sunday, October 25, 2026 at the Nutana Legion 3021 Louise Street, Saskatoon, SK.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be directed to STARS Saskatchewan.
