Obituary

With sorrow, we announce the passing of Joseph “Ted” Cossette beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend to many.

Ted was born April 29, 1929, in Trewdale, Saskatchewan and died May 8, 2026, in Warman, Saskatchewan. Ted was predeceased by his father Emile Cossette, mother Lucia Cossette, wife Lea Cossette (Kostyk), brothers Wilfred, Armand, Roland, Pat, Victor, and Maurice, sisters Blanche, Helen, Lorette, Marie, and MarieAnne, and companions Lydia VanDeVoord and Vivian Murdock.

Ted is survived by his daughter Karie and Bernie Rebeyka, Shawn (Seth, Joel, Noel), Jay and Kellie, Kalla and Nick, son Collin and daughter Calla and Bill Gryba, Jason and Nicole, Amy and Colin Pitman (Lorelai, Max), brothers Butch (Clarence), sisters Claire, Delores, and Noella.

Born into a family of 16 children, Ted acquired many skills on the farm that he would use throughout his life. At the age of 16, Ted joined the RCAF and began his 43 year career in the Canadian Airforce and Reserves. His adventurous spirit took him to many different locations throughout Canada and Europe. After meeting Lea and starting a family, he spent many months in the Arctic building airforce runways and the Alaska highway. Ted accepted a NATO security posting in Germany and was there for three years. After returning to Canada, the family was stationed in Yorkton and Saskatoon (Dundurn). While in Dundurn, he led the transport division, putting his perfectionist traits to great use ensuring every vehicle was always in top condition and spotless.

After retiring from the Canadian Air Force, Ted went on to be a driver examiner with Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) for fifteen years rolling into a part time driver examiner in truck driver training.

Ted was always a storyteller of life on the farm and in the Airforce and enjoyed sharing these stories with his grandchildren and great grandchildren through word and song. Ted could recollect many songs from his past which made him a natural entertainer and always the life of the party with a terrific sense of humor.

Ted loved sports and participated in baseball, football, and curling throughout his military career. He was an avid supporter of his grandchildren's activities. Ted also loved to cook. Most will remember his homemade chicken noodle soup and his crepes. He had a gift for making everything he made taste so good no matter how many people he fed! And if asked what his secret was, his response was always the same…cream and butter!

We would like to thank all of those who made his life full throughout the years and would like to thank the staff at Diamond House Care home in Warman for their exceptional compassionate care throughout Ted’s stay and everyone who has supported the family in Ted’s final chapter.

The memorial service will be held at Cherished Memories funeral home in Martensville Saskatchewan on June 13th, 2026, 2 PM.

Cherished Memories is honoured to be entrusted with Mr. Cossette's care and arrangements.
