Obituary

Joan Elizabeth Rau (née Hoffman), born February 16, 1956, of Saskatoon, passed away on June 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Joan is lovingly remembered by Dave, her husband of 49 years; her sons, Ryan (Jennifer) and Brent (Melissa); and her grandsons, Reagan, Zachary, Alexander, and Jackson. She is also remembered by her sister, Gay (Gerald), as well as many extended family members and friends whose lives were enriched by her presence. She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Queenie Hoffman, and her brother, Doug.

Family was at the center of Joan’s life; she loved them more than anything. As a devoted wife, she and Dave built a partnership filled with love and dedication. As a mother, she was always there to lend a helping hand and wise counsel whenever her sons needed it. As a sister, she and Gay shared countless wonderful times together shopping and baking. But being a grandmother to her four little boys was undoubtedly her greatest joy, and she loved each of them deeply.

Joan also leaves behind a large group of very special friends. Together, they shared many memorable evenings at their "splurge club" and enjoyed several trips. She loved them dearly, and they loved her in return.

Our hearts are broken, and it is difficult to express just how much she will be missed. We will forever cherish our precious memories of her, how she made every holiday special with countless gifts, large Easter baskets, and big family meals. We will miss decorating cookies and Easter eggs, spending summers together at the cottage, and playing endless games of canasta and cribbage.

Rest in peace, sweet Joan. We love you, miss you, and will keep you close to our hearts always. Most importantly, we will ensure your grandsons never forget you or the immense love you had for them.

A celebration of Joan’s life will be held at a future date.
