James Harold Cartwright

July 29, 1965 — May 23, 2025

It is with deep sorrow the family of Jim (Jamie) Cartwright announce his passing on May 23, 2025 at the age of 59. He was born in North Vancouver, lived most of his life in Calgary, spent some years in Victoria BC, and since 2017 has resided in Saskatoon.

The world has lost an extraordinary person, a man of unremitting cheerfulness and stoicism in spite of numerous health issues. Humility, kindness and a keen understanding of the plight of others were traits exemplified by Jim. He was a man of integrity, perseverance and hard work, a valued employee of Starwood Marriott.

Beset by kidney and other health problems from an early age he nevertheless lived a vibrant life. He received a kidney from his Mom, Ann in 1992 and from his brother Craig in 2008 (perfect match). This gave him and his adored wife, and best friend Cathy many happy years……years to ride his motorcycle and enjoy Gull Lake at the family cabin, love and take pleasure in the raising of Kristine and David, maintaining and adding improvements to his house , and delighting in his grandchildren.

The middle of three brothers and one younger sister, all close in age, they enjoyed a special camaraderie and closeness.

He leaves to mourn his cherished wife Cathy of 24 years, her beloved children, Kristine (Brad) and David (India), three outstandingly special grandchildren, Jude, Dexter and Alexa. How they loved and brought joy to their “Poppa”.

Also, Jim will be deeply missed by his mother Ann Mickenberg, stepfather Harvey Mickenberg, siblings, Steve (Kate), Craig, and sister Shannon (Lorne). Nieces, Claire Cartwright, Kennedy Cartwright, Hayley Cartwright and Nephew Jesse Cartwright(Courtney). Uncle Craig Fraser( Brenda), Aunt Marlyn Savage (Dennis). Cousins, Jessica Fraser, Celia Brogan (Chris), Liam Brownrigg (Deb).

Jim was predeceased by his father Harold Cartwright, Aunt Margaret Brownrigg, Grandparents, Jean Fraser and Dr. Bill Fraser, Pearl Cartwright and Major Harold Cartwright.

It cannot be overstated the gratitude the family feels for the exceptional care Jim received at the Palliative Care Unit at St Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon.
