Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Jack Scott, on Sunday, August 30th, 2026 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at the young age of 88.

Jack was born in Esther, Alberta on December 26th, 1937 to James and Rosie Scott. Younger brother to Ronald (Ron) Scott, and older brother to William (Bill), Mary, Richard (Dick), David (Dave) and Thomas (Tom) Scott.

Jack moved to Saskatoon in his younger years where he met and married Doreen Pilon of Batoche, SK on September 20th, 1969 in Saskatoon, SK. During their 49 years of marriage, they welcomed their three sons Darrell in 1970, Wilfred (Willy) in 1971 and Jamie in 1976. Unfortunately, we lost mom in 2019 at which time he moved in with Darrell and Ashley, and then back home until the time of his passing.

Jack was a man of very few words, but he loved to be wherever everyone else was. He would observe and listen, smile and nod, and his favorite response was always “yep” accompanied with a sweet smile or giggle. He was literally a “Jack of all trades”, he drove truck in his earlier years and was exceptionally fine at fixing things, he had a strong knowledge of heavy equipment and vehicles and how they operated, and could be seen tinkering on something somewhere. He worked for several businesses as well as himself throughout the years and had many car sale ventures with his brothers, where he made many friends along the way.

To know Jack was to love him. He would give you the shirt off his back or guaranteed he had another in his car to give you. He was quiet, kind, gentle, funny, giving, and most of all loving.

Jack enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, whether it was watching a movie or the evening news, playing bingo, a game of cards, or watching a ball or a hockey game at a local pub with his boys. He was always happy to be included and eager to go. He was quite fond of the Saskatchewan Riders and of course the Edmonton Oilers. He could also be seen at the odd UFC nights out as well.

Some of his favorite things were Colonel Sander’s Fried Chicken (it was never KFC!), Westerns, and his pets Loki, Buddy, Archie, and Jackie, who he eagerly shared his favorite armchair and blanket with, or out for a cold beverage and visit with friends.

Jack was predeceased by his parents James and Rosie Scott, his beloved wife Doreen Scott (nee Pilon), grandson Steven Rigby, brothers Tom, Bill, and Ron Scott. Half siblings Joyce, Beatrice, Lois, Don and Mervin Scott. Brothers-in-law Julian, Wilfred and Ferd Pilon, Gary Fidler and Dale Gill. Sister-in-laws Verna Pidhaychuk, Doreen Pilon, Lillian Vinish, and Dorothy Scott, nieces Bonita Hamilton, Audrey Heinz, and Sylvia Odgers, along with those who have gone before him.

Left to mourn his passing are sons Darrell (Ashley), Willy (Nicole) and Jamie (Monique) Scott, all of Saskatoon. Grandchildren Jessica (Austin) East, Melanie (Zachary) West, Naomi, Renee, Keanna, and Sawyer Scott, and Kyler Pavely. Seventeen great grandchildren; Aubrie, Scarlette, Savannah, Easton, Violette, Silas, Deja, Addison, Sebastian, Brandon, Robbie, London, Lucas, Kayden, Skyler, Lacey, and Paisley. Siblings Mary (Marlyn) Warrington, Dick, and Dave Scott. In-laws Romy, Arthur (Justina), Allan (Brenda) and Arlene Pilon, Clarice Gobeil, Lorraine Fidler, Annette (Wendell) Swain and Isabelle Gill, Beatrice and Shirley Scott, Una Lepine and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the RUH Cancer Clinic and Oncology Unit for the care Dad received during his short stay there.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Loverna, Saskatchewan, date yet to be determined.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Cherished Memories Funeral Home, Martensville SK.
