It is with a heavy heart that the Ross family announces the passing of Gerry Ross on January 20, 2026.
Gerry had a great smile and a warm presence. His laugh was infectious and he loved nothing more than sharing a good joke. Family and friends were important to him and he treasured the time that he spent with both.
Gerry was born in Calgary, AB and grew up in Edmonton, AB and Saskatoon, SK. He attended Harry Ainley in Edmonton and graduated from Evan Hardy in Saskatoon. He received his Bachelor of Physical Education and Education from the University of Saskatchewan.
Gerry began his career teaching in the Saskatoon Public School Board. He loved engaging with his students and helping out with extra curricular activities. He later transitioned to being a business owner, operating the Valumaster Hardware and SGI Motor License Issuer in La Loche.
Gerry had a sense of adventure and loved the opportunities he had to travel. He had a passion for photography and the photos that he took around La Loche really captured the beauty of the northern landscape. Music was also important in his life - whether it was playing, listening or dancing.
Athletics were a large part of Gerry’s life. He competed in various individual and team sports, most notably swimming and water polo. His love of competitive swimming continued on into adulthood. He was proud to have coached many athletes with clubs in Saskatoon. He was also a passionate fan of the Riders and was thrilled to see his team win the Grey Cup this past November.
Gerry is survived by his son Max and step-children Tyler and Robyn Matheson, his brothers Douglas (Agnes), David (Twyla) and his sister Diane (Mark) as well as his nieces and nephews Kaeli (Jon), Nessa (Tom), AJ (Laura), Sarya, Megan (Joey) and Ben as well as great nieces and nephew Cassidy, Norah, Owen and Paige. Gerry was predeceased by his parents Allen and Doreen.
Throughout his adult life, Gerry had a number of dogs and they were wonderful companions. In lieu of flowers, for people wishing to make a memorial donation, the family suggests honouring that love of animals by making a donation to the SPCA.
The family will be planning a Celebration of Life, to be held at a later date. Details will be shared when they are ready.
Cherished Memories Funeral Services is honoured to be entrusted with Mr. Gerry Ross' care and arrangements.
