Garry Lee Rector

January 27, 1949 — March 18, 2024

Garry leaves us today with comfort, peace, and love holding on to him, to be forever in the hands of God. With his wife, children, and grandchildren constantly by his side, he now sleeps in a blanket of love, sealed with hugs and kisses. Forever in our hearts, we love you.

Garry was a Saskatoon City Police Officer from 1972-1996. He enjoyed his job and always gave his best to do it well. His ability for humour could make a situation on the job easier for others to carry on. He was well respected on the force by fellow officers on and off the job. His work ethics did not go unnoticed. Garry was given the opportunity to work in several areas of the Police Department, which meant more learning and teaching in his career. Sergeant Garry Rector #7 retired in 1996. Retirement led to other job offers. He started at S.G.I. as a private investigator. A short time later he was security manager for the Emerald Casino. The last career of investigating was with S.L.G.A., overseeing casino operations.

With all of the above Garry had a special hobby, carving. He carved birds, ducks, etc. for 30 years. He also taught many students who became excellent carvers and good friends. He belonged to The Saskatchewan Wildlife Art Association, Woodworkers’ Guild, and Reflections of Nature Art Show. The members involved are wonderful friends who care, and share their knowledge with each other. Garry donated his carvings to several fundraisers over time, which were always appreciated. Carving gave Garry peace and happiness to his life. He loved it and encouraged everyone to continue. His philosophy was; If you make a mistake carving don’t worry “ it’s only a piece of wood”, enjoy your life.

Garry loved his family more than anything. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren. To visit with them would make his day. With his wife by his side, love needed no words.

Garry was predeceased by our daughter Nicole Rector. His parents Edward and Dorothy Rector, brother Raymond and sister Debra. He remains in the hearts of his surviving family.

His loving wife of 55 years Connie (née Schaefer), son Shawn (Rhonda) Rector, daughter Pamela (Brad) Hartmann, and our forever special grandchildren Steven, Jordan, Jessica and Sarah.

The family would like to thank Dr. Roelens for insisting Garry go to the hospital, to all the medical staff at St. Paul’s Hospital Palliative Care, The Saskatchewan Health Authority and the staff at Diamond House in Warman for comfort care. Also, to all my neighbours for helping us out this past summer and winter, and our friends and family for calling and their support. A special thank you for the love and affection of our daughter Pamela, and grandson Steven, for always being here when needed.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Cherished Memories Funeral Home is honoured to be entrusted with Garry’s care.
