The family of Emil Eirich sadly announces his passing on July 20, 2026, in Saskatoon, SK.

Dad was born on the family farm near Leader, SK, on October 28, 1935, to David and Theophilige Eirich. Dad met Mom when her family moved from B.C. to Leader while she was a teenager.

Emil and Carmen were married on October 11, 1958, and two years later, Jocelyn was born. Three years later, Karen was born, and eight years after that came Sheldon.

Dad started his career with the Wheat Pool as a helper and later became an agent in Coppen, SK. He and Mom later moved to Lakenheath, SK, where he played baseball, and then to Mankota, SK, where he played hockey. From there, Dad was promoted to Traveller and moved to Melville, SK, where he refereed for the SJHL and the Melville Millionaires. The Wheat Pool then moved him to Saskatoon, where he retired at the age of 55. Dad was an avid hunter, taking Mom on the annual pheasant hunt back in Mankota.

Emil is survived by his children, Jocelyn Vranai (Don), Karen Baynton (Marcel), and Sheldon Eirich (Tracey); his three grandchildren, Deanna Greer-Vranai (Taylor), Ashley Benson (Justin), and Justin Thurstan (Hailee); and one great-grandchild, River Benson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Emil was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 64 years, Carmen, and his seven siblings.

Dad will be remembered for his love of the Roughriders, Blue Jays, and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

He leaves behind memories of fun times camping, fishing, and relaxing in his beautiful yard. Dad will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
