Starts at 2:00 pm (Central (no DST) time)
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elaine Long, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, at the age of 72 on September 1, 2026, after a long and tough battle with COPD.
Elaine was born on Valentine's Day, February 14,1954 in Saskatoon to John and Kay Mack. She had four older siblings (Glenn, Daphne, Johnny and David), as well as one younger brother (Dale).
As a young adult, Elaine spent her time searching for herself in many ways. She was a well known singer in Saskatoon, not just at events, but at all family gatherings that would lead to late night guitars and singing.
Elaine worked a variety of jobs including spending a few years in the reserves, to a short stint at Saskatoon Boiler, to ultimately building a career path at the City of Saskatoon. She worked in office administration in a variety of positions, specifically enjoying her time at Clerks and at the Water Treatment Plant. Elaine made long-lasting friendships during her time at the City and was highly thought of in any position she held. She retired in 2014, and received her long service award for 25 years of service which was a point of great pride.
In 1989, she met Dave Long and it was love at first sight. They were married on June 23, 1990, and built a lifetime of memories together over the next 36 years. They truly understood the meaning of 'in sickness and in health, and to love and to cherish'. They went on many adventures together and loved to travel; making many trips to England to spend time with Dave's family, going to Vegas to see Elton John, out to the east coast, and many more.
Once she retired, Elaine enjoyed spending her time pursuing her passion for genealogy, researching and tracing the Mack ancestry for hundreds of years. Her other passion in retirement was her grandkids. She was so proud of all four of them and loved to put so much time and thought into any gift she would find for them.
Elaine was predeceased by her parents John and Kay Mack, as well as her siblings; Glenn (Dianne), Daphne (Bill), Johnny, and Dale (Theresa).
Elaine will be lovingly remembered by her husband Dave, son Carlos (Becky), daughter Catherine (Phillip,) and her grandchildren (Maurie and Rorik - Carlos) (Liam and Olivia - Catherine) who will always think of Nana when there is a musical to watch or a bad joke to groan at. She will also be remembered by her brother David (Cathy), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Elaine made a lasting impression on everyone around her with her sense of humour, bright personality and positive outlook on life.
A celebration of life will be held on September 10, 2026 at 2 pm at Cherished Memories Funeral Services in Martensville with coffee to follow.
Cherished Memories is honoured to have been entrusted with Elaine's care and arrangements.
