Edna Swanson

It is with great sadness that we announce that Lillian “Edna” Swanson, age 91, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, passed away April 18, 2025 at the Preston Avenue Extendicare Home surrounded by loved ones. 

Edna was born to Ole and Elva Guskjolen of Aneroid, Saskatchewan, on February 25, 1934, being the last of four children.

In 1953, she met and married Arnold Swanson, moving often throughout Western Canada to accommodate Arnold’s employment opportunities, until they settled in Saskatoon in 1995.

At the time of her death, she is lovingly remembered and survived by her children, Dave (Barb), Lee, Shane (Napa), and Sandra (Russ) Friesen; as well as grandchildren, Ryan (Camille) Swanson, Kyler (Jacqueline) Swanson, Garth Dyment, Megan (Addison) Reid, Erica Blewett, Taylor and Alex Friesen; and great-grandchildren, Annie, Elsie, Caleb, Lily, Connor, Xavier, Archer and Remington; her brother, Bill “Bud”, and numerous nieces and nephews. Edna is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Arnold; her parents; sister, Vera; brother, Jim; and daughter-in-law, Linda. Our apologies if we have missed anyone’s mention during this difficult time.

Mom had a harder life than she deserved, and she was as tough as they come. She was a three-time cancer survivor. She had a competitive spirit that was displayed anytime she was watching baseball, hockey or curling.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Preston Avenue Extendicare for their excellent care and compassion.

A Memorial Service for Edna will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Cherished Memories Funeral Chapel, 591 Centennial Drive North, Martensville, SK. Reception to follow.

Interment will take place on Sunday, July 2025, at Horse Butte Cemetery in Kyle, SK.
