Douglas Neil McDonald

August 13, 1935 — October 17, 2025

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Douglas “Neil” McDonald, at the age of 90, at the Hospice at Glengarda on October 17, 2025, after a short battle with lung cancer.

Neil was born on Aug 13, 1935, in Melfort, Saskatchewan. As a young boy, Neil lived with his family on a farm in the Central Park District. During WWII, the family moved to Melfort. Neil quit school at a young age and went to work to help the family. He was an avid hockey player and had a successful career in Junior Hockey – travelling all over Canada and the USA. He helped his Uncle’s Jim, Jock and Doug on the family farm. He started working at Parkland Hospital in 1960 in Melfort and worked there for over 30 years. Neil loved to fish, play golf, play cards, being outdoors, tinkering in his workshop, travelling and spending the winters in Yuma. He married Beverley Potter on July 16, 1960, in Saskatoon, SK and to this union 4 children were born. After the passing of Beverley, Neil married Donna and moved to Saskatoon. He loved going to see “the girls” at the Coachman Restaurant in Market Mall. Walking there daily and having a coffee or a meal, was a highlight for him. Neil will always be remembered for his gentle and caring spirit.

Neil was pre-deceased by his wife, Beverley, in March 2000, and Donna, July 2018; his parents, Donald and Muriel McDonald; two infant sisters, Jean and Helen; brothers Ken and Donnie. He leaves to mourn his passing: Children: Linda of Leduc, AB, Valerie of Eastend, SK, Robert (Lana) of Saskatoon, SK, and Janet (Marlon) of Okotoks, AB; 8 Grandchildren: Joshua (Natasha), Christopher (Morgan), Danielle (Kirk), Amanda, Alissa (Josh), Kayla (Chris), Cody (Nicole), Carson; 11 Great Grandchildren: Lynden, Denver, Jayden, Andrew, Elouise, Oliver, Brooklynn, Layla, Everly, Mikayla and Austin; Sister, Elaine of Saskatoon; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
