September 4, 2026, was an emotional day for our family. It was the day we lost a cherished member, Doug Steppler.

Doug was born on October 15, 1960. Born and raised in MB.

He is survived by his wife Cherie Steppler, son Shawn Douglas Steppler, daughter, Angela Nichole Steppler(Nikki), step-son Caz-Lee Rode. His mother, Doreen and his sister Wendy Steppler.

Doug also had lots of grandchildren, Zayne steppler-McBride, Keira McBride, Mazikeen McBride, Tanner Antonichuk, Richard Steppler ll, Shayden Steppler, Peyton Martens, Skyler Steppler, Liam, Jahseh, Angel, our adopted son Tyler Hopkinson and his family.

Nieces and Nephews: Tessa Thachyk, Richard Tkachyk, Graham Tkachyk, and numerous cousins.

Doug passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He was truly good man, a great father and grandfather, a wonderful friend, and the most loving husband I could have ever been so fortunate to have in my life.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Doug always took the time to joke with everyone he met.

I first met Doug in late 2006 at the Tim Hortons in Moose Jaw, where I also met Jim (known as Choo-Choo).

Doug was enjoyable to be with, we were always joking around, cruising up and down Main Street, attending car shows, and riding motorcycles together. Doug and I became an official couple on his birthday in 2007, and we had been together for 20 years.

We were happy and worked well together as a team. We were married on September 8 in 2012, a date that we have remembered and cherished throughout our years together.

We shared many happy moments such as lighthearted teasing, enjoying coffee and stories on the deck, or fishing with family and friends.

We also started a towing company together, Bears Towing & Recovery. Doug built a strong team that felt like family through his work in the towing business. He truly enjoyed those times, always embracing the new challenges that arose for him and his team. When it was time to hang the chains, we decided to move North and met some great people in Paddockwood, Candle Lake, and at the golf resort in Candle. He created a family he never knew he needed. Doug was always one for hunting, he enjoyed those days. Just being in nature was enough for him. We eventually made it further up North; our work took us to the Saskatchewan side of Sandy Bay. We were employed at a remote fishing camp for 23 months, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We appreciated the scenery and all aspects of the job, including commuting to work by boat. Doug particularly found it to be a period of personal discovery. I am pleased that we were able to fulfill one of the items on his bucket list. While we were up there, he had the opportunity at Atacoose Lake with a buddy, to go moose hunting... Another one off his bucket list. Everything up there was good. 

Doug enjoyed the 65 years of his life. Some of it was hard, some was very challenging, but he made it through every single hardship or blockage. Nothing kept him down for long. He fought to the bitter end, and I couldn't be more proud of him cuz he fought one hell of a battle. A battle no one ever should have to face but he showed courage to everyone that he knew. Forever Rest in peace my love. I will see you again one day.
