Dorothy Jean Gammon (nee Marchant) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, at the age of 94.
Born on December 11, 1931, in Wadena, Saskatchewan, she was the beloved daughter of William and Gladys Marchant. On September 28, 1949, she married John (Jack) Alvin Gammon in Quill Lake, Saskatchewan.
Known to family and friends as Jean, Jo, Dorothy, or Dot, she happily answered to them all. Jean experienced profound loss early in life when her brothers, Jack and Jim, were killed during World War II. Their deaths deeply affected her and left a lasting imprint on her heart. She loved all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, but she held a special affection for the boys in her family, perhaps because of the loss of her brothers. It became a family joke that Mom could be chatting casually with her daughters, but the moment one of the boys appeared, her face would light up and her entire demeanour would change.
Jean worked alongside her husband, Jack, at the post office in Clair, Saskatchewan, where she served as the telephone switchboard operator. When the switchboard was removed, she continued assisting with post office duties. While living in Clair, she was an active member of the Clair Homemakers and participated in many of their activities, including helping create a community recipe book.
Following Jack's passing, Jean moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, where her parents resided. She later worked at Zellers on Circle Drive until her retirement. Mom loved dancing and made several dear friends during her years at Zellers. Together they enjoyed spending evenings at local legion halls, where they could often be found on the dance floor.
Jean was predeceased by her husband, John (Jack) Gammon; her daughter, Barbara Charbonneau; her son-in-law, Guy Charbonneau; her parents, William and Gladys Marchant; and her siblings, Alex, Jack, Jim, and Ada Mitchell (Norm).
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Patricia (Carl), Wendy, and Dawn (Daryl); her grandchildren, Deanna, Sean (Johanna), Karla (Todd), T.J. (Tara), Kelly (Dana), Lia, Nicky (Troy), Trevor, Chase, and Brooke; and her great-grandchildren, Lachlan, Eric, Josh, Rebecca, Tyler, Jessica, Donovan, and Cruz.
She will be remembered for her love of her family, her warm spirit, and the joy she found in the people she loved the most.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate Dorothy's life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Dorothy Gammon to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Canadian Lung Association.
Martens Warman Funeral Home is honoured to be entrusted with Dorothy Gammon's care and arrangements.
