Diane Stephanie Gillies

It is with heavy hearts the family of Diane Gillies announce her passing on Dec. 28, 2023 at the age of 78. She is survived by her daughters and family, Laurie Kenny (Steve), Lisa Brown (Darren) & Rene' Dignean (Mel) and her grandkids and great grandkids, Nicholas Kukurudza (Nixon & Max), Spencer & Jordan Magnuson (Ellee & Marlee), Riley Brown (Paris), Curtis Lukan, Mathieu Kenny & Avery Dignean. Her nephew Ken Babey (Deb) and her niece Carol Weinmeyer (Dean) and families. Diane was the youngest child of John & Anne Babey. She had two older brothers Pete & Nick, who have all predeceased her. Her parents were both from Ukraine but they met here in Saskatoon and started a life together. From the stories she would tell she had a great life growing up. Lots of gatherings with neighbours & friends. Must have been where she got her love of socializing. She married the love of her life Gary and had an amazing life with him. They were high school sweethearts, she was a Sion cheerleader and he was a St. Pauls basketball player. They eloped and got married at the age of 18 & 19 and were married 57 years until dad's passing in 2021. Mom was a loving wife and wonderful mother. She loved her time spent with family, friends & neighbours. She loved having fun jiving with dad or her best friend Mona. The music was always on and there were many late nights with neighbours, family & friends. She had so many great people in her life it's hard to include them all. She had a few jobs in her younger years but retired from the Credit Union, where she went on to babysit her grandkids. She always made you feel right at home. You could not say no to having a coors light with her and dad. She lived life to the fullest and made every moment count. She passed away peacefully at home and was ready to go and be with the love of her life again. She will be in our hearts forever. She was cremated and there was no service as per her wishes. The family does plan to have a celebration of her life in the near future. We would like to thank Cherished Memories Funeral Home for making this difficult time a little easier.
