Darrel Dean Ernest Morin

Darrel Dean Ernest Morin - Recipient of the National Medal of Bravery (1997) / Firefighter and proud Member of the Métis and Cree Nations.

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Darrel Dean Ernest Morin, a courageous and devoted man who lived a life of service, strength, and cultural pride. Darrel was the recipient of the National Medal of Bravery in 1997 for his acts of heroism and served his community as a firefighter.

Darrel was a proud and active member of several Indigenous communities and organizations, including:

  • CUMFI Local Saskatoon (President Shirley Isbister)

  • Métis Local 5 Green Lake (President Richard Morin)

  • AMNSIS / Métis Local 5 Green Lake

  • Registered Member of Petakaquay (Chief Kelly Wolfe)

  • Registered Member of Kopewekanum (Flying Dust)

    • Descendant of Headman Basil Merasty (1874) and Chief Tyson Bear

He was the beloved son of Joseph Ernest Laliberte (Merasty–Durocher–Bear) and Mary Irene Morin (Dolly) (Lafond–Arcand–Wolfe), who was a registered member of Petakaquay (Muskeg Lake Cree Nation) and a descendant of Chief Jean Baptiste Lafond (1885) and Chief Kelly Wolfe.

Darrel leaves behind his cherished children: Chasity (Raven) Gardiner, Cheyenne Gardiner, Cynthia, Garret Gardiner (Shawna Gardiner), Devon Caisse (Sharon Caisse), and Aaron Roy.

He is also survived by brothers and sisters by love and relation—too numerous to mention, but each one deeply loved.

Surviving uncles include: Richard Morin, Garry Morin, and Robert Laliberte (PeeZoo).Surviving aunts include: Edna Middlestead, Nelda Laliberte, and Paula Laliberte (Floyd).

Darrel is reunited in spirit with those who passed before him, including:

Grandparents: Henry and Virginia Morin, Julian and Algina Laliberte

Great-Grandparents: William Morin & Judille DeLaRondeClement Laliberte & Aldina Morin, Celestin Merasty & Pelagie Morin, Norbert Laliberte & Marie Josephine Jourdain

Brothers and sisters by love and relation: Randy Dick Morin, William Doug Laliberte (Juggy), Gladys Ahenakew, Sharon Clarke, Derek Umpherville, Clyde Ross, Archie Sayese, Darwin Morin, and many more loved ones who went before him.

Deceased aunts: Bella Morin, Mary Dora Petit, Josephine Petit (Jessie), Laura Morin, Jean Bugbee, Betty Laliberte, Leona Durocher

Deceased uncles: Tommy Laliberte (2), Floyd Laliberte, Solomon Laliberte, James (Jimmy) Laliberte, Etienne Morin (5), Etienne Morin, Lawrence Morin, Roddy Morin, William (Diboy) Morin, Ken Petit (Jessie), Norman Petit (Dorothy), Joe Bouvier, Henry Morin (Bella), and Louis Morin (Laura)

Darrel will be remembered for his bravery, his pride in his heritage, and the love he shared with all who knew him. His legacy lives on through his family, community, and the countless lives he touched.
