The adventure that Darlene and I had came to an end just after 3am in the wee hours of Saturday April 27, 2024 just days after celebrating her 53rd annual 29th birthday.
I met my darling wife, Darlene LaFreniere, on December 17th, 1962 at the Dog and Suds in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. We were engaged in March and married on October 12, 1963. After living in Lloydminster, Viscount, North Battleford and Saskatoon - the Magnificent 7 settled in Aberdeen, Saskatchewan in 1976.
Darlene was an active community member on different committees, the Lions Club and most of all - a Mom to all our kids and their friends. Dar enjoyed time with family and friends at the lakes - first Meota and the Candle Lake.
Darlene worked at the University of Saskatchewan in the Alumni Development and Information Systems Department for 20 years before retiring in 1998. Dar made lifelong friends wherever she went.
Upon retiring, Dar and I travelled between Lady Smith, BC in the winters and the 'Lake' in the summer time. Our adventures included things like 'red-nosing' animal crossing sings from Saskatchewan to BC, floating on the lake, treasure hunting and many games of cards along both ways.
Darlene's needs changed during the years and included moves to Vonda, Aberdeen, St. Michael's Haven in Cudworth and finally Porteous Lodge in Saskatoon. The staffs in all the places always went above and beyond for my Lady.
Dar had a beautiful smile and a heart of gold. She is a helluva lady and will always be remembered with a gentle head tilt or grin.
She was welcomed with open arms by our Daughter Teri and our dog Gypsy to the Gates of Heaven where they are waiting until we meet again.
Darlene was survived by her loving husband Robert (Bob) McDonald. Children Scott (Jill) McDonald, James (Audrey) McDonald, Tracey (Marc) Grand'Maison and Tricia (Ed) Noble. Grandchildren Rob Tutka, Steven (Ava) McDonald, Ryan (Tiffany) Perry, Ashlen McDonald, Brayden (Randi) Perry and Kaden (Jaden) McDonald. Great Grandchildren: Mia Perry and Ari, Amiyah & Adley McDonald.
There will be a come and go Memorial for Darlene on Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 1:00pm - 4:00 pm at the Aberdeen Community Hall.
