IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cindy Lee
Bateman
September 30, 1969 – February 23, 2026
Cindy-Lee Bateman was born on September 30, 1969, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and passed away on February 23, 2026, at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.
Born and raised in Montgomery Place, Cindy attended Mount Royal Collegiate, where she completed her schooling and began building the independent, spirited life she would continue to live on her own terms.
Cindy worked in the hospitality industry for much of her life and made lifelong friendships everywhere she went. From housekeeping at Lake Louise Ski Resort to Stan’s Place, Uncle Barley’s, Dion’s, Heritage Inn, Yanz, and most recently SSR Seabee Gold Mine - the job she loved most - Cindy left her mark. She had a way of connecting with people, and she collected friends wherever she worked.
If you knew Cindy, you knew karaoke. She wasn’t just a participant - she was the Queen of Karaoke. Singing in pubs across Saskatoon and even hosting her own karaoke shows, Cindy came alive with a microphone in hand. Two years ago, she moved to Martensville to live with her sister and family, and it didn’t take long before she found her Saturday night stage at the local pub. She loved it - the music, the laughter, the spotlight.
Cindy enjoyed travelling and looked forward to every adventure. She visited Playa del Sol, Belize, Florida, New Jersey, and of course New York - because she loved the Yankees. She was also a proud fan of the Edmonton Oilers and the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Her favorite colour was purple - though black, leopard prints, and checkered flannel shirts were equally at home in her wardrobe. She had a lifelong love of reading, and family still laugh about the childhood “Curious George” joke of “She is eating her drawers”, which was a line lovingly invented by her father that became an inside family classic.
Cindy found joy in creativity. She spent hours working on Diamond Art portraits, especially of dolphins and elephants. And if you walked into her room, you would quickly discover her legendary LED light obsession - she was determined to light up the sky.
As a young girl, Cindy sang in the Trinity United Church Sunday School choir, played clarinet in band, and participated in recreational gymnastics and swimming. She carried that creative, expressive spirit throughout her life.
Cindy is survived by what she lovingly called her “half a football team” - her six children and four beautiful grandchildren:
Jayson Bateman (Alexis and Mercedes), Donovan Bateman (Oakley and Quinn), Devin Bateman, Dylan Marciniuk, Dustin Marciniuk, and Dalton Marciniuk.
She is also survived by her mother, Carol Bateman; her brother Scott Bateman (Lana Kotlar); her sister Jaime Svennes (Gerry Svennes); her nieces and nephews Brock Kotlar-Bateman, Ross Svennes (Claire), Breana Svennes, and Brooke Kotlar-Bateman; and her extended family she met later in life, sister Gina Beck and brother Geoff Beck. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends.
Cindy shared a special bond with her niece Breana, often calling her “the daughter she never had.” She treasured her friendship with her work buddy Tanya Scheer and spoke often of her good friends Randy, Dirk, Dave, Bonnie, and so many others.
Cindy was predeceased by her father Royce Bateman; her biological father Harvey Beck; her grandparents on the Bateman and Dwornik sides; uncle Mickey Bateman; and cousin Shawn Dwornik.
Cindy wasn’t ready to leave this world. She had plans - more trips to the States and Belize, more songs to sing, more memories to make. Her sudden passing has left an ache in our hearts and a space that can never truly be filled.
Cindy “Hyphen-Lee” Bateman (the hyphen - another family joke, thanks to Jams) will be missed more than words can say. Her family will keep her bedroom just the way she left it, and her winter coat will hang on the garage chair until summer comes.
And Cindy… if you’re up there playing with those LED lights, please stop - you’re freaking us out.
We love you. We miss you.
A Celebration of Cindy’s Life will be announced at a later date.
The family extends sincere thanks to Dr. McFadden and the caring nurses and staff in the ICU at Royal University Hospital for the compassion and dignity shown to Cindy. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
Cherished Memories is honoured to be entrusted with Cindy Bateman's care and arrangements.
