Obituary

Christopher “Chris” Okkerse was born on September 5, 1964, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Chris was predeceased by his beloved mother, Olive Jean George Okkerse; his grandfather, Willem Okkerse; his grandmother, Effie George; and his aunt, Catharina Koffemen Okkerse.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Richel Raymondo Okkerse; his children, Krischel Okkerse and Kara Okkerse; his father, Simon Okkerse; his stepmother, Marina Okkerse; and his aunts, Maartje de Smidth and Adriana Hennig.

Chris grew up in the Greystone Heights neighbourhood of Saskatoon, where he lived and attended school. He later moved with his family to an acreage south of Langham before returning to Saskatoon’s Westview area, where he completed his high school education at Mount Royal Collegiate.

From a very young age, Chris showed a remarkable entrepreneurial spirit. Before he was even old enough to drive, he could be found pushing a rototiller through the neighbourhood, rototilling gardens and trimming trees—already building the strong work ethic that would define his life.

At the age of ten, after witnessing his grandmother pass away from a heart attack, Chris made a profound decision to give his life to Jesus—an experience that would shape his faith and guide him throughout his life.

Chris went on to own and operate pizza restaurants, including Nino’s and later Michaelangelo’s, which he ran for five years. After selling the business, he attended Briercrest Bible College. He later operated a property management company and eventually founded Chris Irrigation Inc., continuing his lifelong path of entrepreneurship and hard work.

For over 30 years, Chris was a devoted member of Faith Alive Family Church, where his faith was nurtured and lived out in community. During this time of loss, the family has been deeply comforted by the church family’s ongoing prayers, meals, and acts of support.
