Brian Hodgkinson

June 12, 1954 — March 5, 2024

Brian was born in Brandon, Manitoba on June 12th, 1954. Brian joined the Hodgkinson family in early July, 1954 when his new parents and special cousin Dave Green picked Brian up in a red 1953 Chevy, which started his love for Chevrolet’s vehicles. Brian’s first home was in Rossburn, Manitoba where he lived for many years with mom Elsie, dad Fred and younger sister Jill. In 1957 Fred took a job in Saskatoon with Federated Coop and the family relocated. The family settled in the Montgomery area on Ortona Street.

Brian passed away on March 5th, 2024 at the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s hospital in Saskatoon at the age of 69 after a nine year battle with cancer.

Brian is survived by his loving wife Josie Hodgkinson, his son Matthew Hodgkinson (Crystal Stettner), step daughter Katie Baillie (Yol Piok), stepsons Brennan Baillie (Chantelle) granddaughter Amelia, Dr. Landon Baillie (Laura Pugh) grandchildren Burke and Stella.

Sister Jill Hodgkinson (Gerard Reschny), her children Erin Crossland (Dean) and their children Cohen and Prestyn Crossland and Kelly Shaw, sister Gail Norman, brothers David Sawatzky (Hendi), Don Sawatzky (Michele).

In Brian’s younger years he competed in running and high jump and set records located under the Saskatchewan Hall of Fame website.

One of Brian’s first and favorite jobs, in the early 1970’s, was driving tow truck. He always told us stories about the winter storms when he worked all night pulling vehicles out of the ditch and he was very excited about his profitable weekend. Brian was an avid car enthusiast that loved to attend the races at SIR and all car shows with his son Matthew. Brian enjoyed family gatherings, food and most of all when the grandchildren came to visit Papa.

Brian was a dedicated employee at SaskPower and then SaskEnergy for forty years.

Brian finished off his career working with DCD Contracting in the Fibre Optics field with Dan Dupuis and Kim Arndt. Special heartfelt thanks to Dan and Kim for your assistance and continual support throughout Brian's employment with DCD and your on-going support and friendship after he could no longer work.

We are so grateful to our exceptionally caring family doctor, Dr. Marcel Smit and the Legends Medical Clinic for their kindness and dedication, supporting us through the many years of Brian’s struggles with cancer. Glenn and Devon and the staff from Legends Pharmacy, thank you for treating Brian so special.

Thank you to Dr. Kishore Visvanathan, Dr. Tai, Dr. Hadi Goubran and Angel, Brian's Pallative Care Nurse for their kindness, dedication and support. Special thanks to our advocate for justice and forever friend Mark Zielke and all the other nurses who attended our home over the years.
