Bernie was born to Carl and Lucy Baranieski on August 14th, 1952.

Bernie started his education in Carrot River, SK. When the family moved to Nipawin Bernie took up the sport of Baseball. In grade school he was a member of the 1967 Sandlot Provincial Champions who went on to compete in Lethbridge, Alberta to participate in the Western Canadian Championship finishing runner up to the Lethbridge team. His involvement in fastball continued as a young man as a member of the Nipawin Bullets. He was an 'in the batter's face' third baseman.

Bernie became a father at the young age of 20, and welcomed his second child just two years later. Being a father meant spending countless weekends camping, playing sports, and creating lasting memories with his children.

On March 29, 1993 Bernie met Margaret. They were married on March 29, 1997 and together joined their family of four children in a quiet ceremony in their home in Nipawin.

Family was always at the centre of Bernie’s life. Whether it was a holiday gathering, a birthday, an anniversary, a simple visit, or even just sharing time together, nothing brought him greater joy than being surrounded by those he loved. He also made sure that he and Margaret called everyone they could to wish them a happy Birthday or Anniversary and ensure they knew he was thinking of them. Throughout his life, he built countless friendships, stayed connected with every branch of his extended family, and created a lifetime of treasured memories.

While they lived in Nipawin Bernie enjoyed fishing, golfing and spending time with his family. 

In 1999 Case IH shut down and Bernie and Margaret sold their home and moved to Saskatoon. Here Bernie enjoyed successful careers with Sherwood Chevrolet, Hyundai and Oakwood Nissan. His warm smile, genuine kindness and love of visiting with people made him a natural salesman and helped him build many lasting friendships. Bernie retired in 2015, looking forward to spending more time at home with Margaret.

While Margaret worked Bernie kept himself busy watching golf, football and baseball (Toronto Blue Jay's) but his most favourite was visiting with family and friends. He also loved to cook and spent many hours in the kitchen. He made many kinds of soups, his specialty was borscht. Everyone loved Bernie's borscht. Margaret's favourite is cream of potato.

Along with his soups Bernie's other specialty was head cheese. He loved it when family would come to visit and he could share with them. Bernie also made beets and horse radish which he ate with any meat that was on the table. He experimented with baking as well and was well known for his rhubarb crisp and apple crisp.

In 2015 Margaret and Bernie took their first trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and they were hooked. They made many trips to Puerto Vallarta and in 2024 they took a trip to Mazatlan, Mexico. Margaret and Bernie decided if they were going to keep travelling it would be to Mazatlan.

While in Mazatlan in 2025 Bernie said he didn't feel well. In January 2026 he was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal and stomach cancer.

Bernie passed away at home with his loving, devoted wife and daughter, Pam, by his side. He will be missed.

Bernie is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Baranieski, children; Pam (Kevin) Kirstein and Brad (Janice Eggum Scrimbitt) Baranieski, his stepchildren: Michelle Hoskins and Aaron Patton, grandchildren; Zachary and Olivia Kirstein, Josh Baranieski (Kayla Grimes), Rylan Baranieski (Anike DeKlerk), Ember and Bryn Hoskins, brothers Ig (Cay) Baranieski (Nipawin), Terry (Edie) Baranieski (Prince Albert), Rich (Penny) Baranieski (Prince Albert), sister Verna Cameron (Nipawin) brother in-law Dale Parker (Hudson Bay), sisters in-law Mary (Bob) Kube (Nipawin), Lynda Parker (Prince Albert) and Carol Parker (Warman), aunts, uncles and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother Lucy Baranieski, father Carl Baranieski, mother in-law Shirley Parker, brothers in-law Bruce Parker, Buddy Parker, Rick Cameron and , sister in-law Angie Parker.
