It is with sadness and blessings our family announces the passing of Allen Richard Birns.

A special person that who shared his warm inviting smile and affection, never holding back his heartfelt exuberance, with those that met him.

Allen was predeceased by his parents, George and Jennie Birns, and his grandniece, Amadea, who will always be lovingly remembered. He is survived by his brother Harvey (Carol), his nephew Bill (Heather), children Madison & Kieran, his nephew Brian, his two children Amber (Tyler), and Kody (Jessica), and their two children Andy & Sonny Joe, his niece Michele (Garth), and their son Dylan (Lauryn). Also, Bev Birns, who played such a long, caring, and significant role in Allen’s life. Also his extended family Tanya & Trevor, children Levi & Brody (Kayla), Natasha & Adam, children Daxton & Taila

Allen was born February 5, 1948 in Yorkton, Sk. Allen lived at home with his devoted and dedicated Mom & Dad for 66 years, They lived on Echo Lake near Fort Qu’Appelle from 1947 to 1966, then moving finally to Saskatoon. George, Jennie, and Allen were inseparable. Their love & rewards reciprocal. The warmth and memories abounded and shared by all who entered their home. After retirement they traveled south together in their Winnebago. We must mention their constant four legged companions, Coke I, Coke II, Thomas, and Mr. Mew. Over the years while his brother was home and after he left, the four, then the three of them, visited family and friends from Ontario to BC. Allen had a full life. Allen moved into Porteous Lodge in September, 2014.

Many Homecare personnel and private care staff received the benefits of walking into their home. Some becoming long term and lasting friends. They were filled up with both food and friendship and always, Allen’s smile and love of life. A testament to Allen’s very existence.

Allen’s next wonderful chapter in life was in Porteous Lodge with a side serving of Cosmo Industries. He spent the next 12 years, one week, and 4 hours there until his passing. With him he brought his beautiful and trusting smile. The same dedication and caring awaited him. His second home, his second adventure. And they, the staff received from this man, all wrapped up in a wheelchair, the most positive and wondrous gift…Allen Birns himself. Our family knows and have heard, from all those that knew him then, how much they enjoyed him and how they will miss him. There is no better compliment.

Allen acquired an amazing mixture of friends and family over the years….. So many wonderful moments and adventures. Imagine Allen on a homemade raft out on the lake, while sitting in his wheelchair, or up riding a horse, or cheering George while playing poker with the homecare girls and a few friends. Refreshments at Porteous Lodge. His brother Harvey, playing with kids in the neighbourhood, took him everywhere in his wheelchair and included him. Harvey’s family did the same with Allen over the years. Dancing with Allen in his wheelchair at a few weddings. We all learned from Allen to appreciate and live life to the fullest.

We were so lucky to know him. He leaves behind his special smile, his passion for life and his unconditional love. We will miss him dearly. I hope the three of them are together again.

We invite our friends and all that knew Allen, to come celebrate his life at CHERISHED MEMORIES FUNERAL HOME, 591 Centennial Drive, N in Martensville, Sk. on October 2nd at 2 pm.

Lunch and refreshments will be served immediately after the celebration.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Cerebral Palsy Saskatchewan or a charity of your choice.
