November 12, 1939 – August 15, 2023
Helen Cocks (Eirich) was born on November 12, 1939 on a small farm west of Leader, Saskatchewan to David and Theophilage Eirich—the last born of 8 children.
Helen attended high school in Leader and then pursued nursing school in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Upon graduation, Helen returned to her hometown to work at Leader Union Hospital as a Registered Nurse from 1961 to 2004. Helen was a highly respected and compassionate nurse, dedicating 43 years to her profession and was secretary/treasurer of her local union for many years. Helen will be remembered as an unconditionally loving, kind, organized, and hard-working individual.
She enjoyed many hobbies throughout the years including crocheting, knitting, needlepoint/cross-stitch, paper toll, chocolate making, reading, baking, canning, sewing, and could make almost any cake for her children’s birthdays. Upon retirement, Helen volunteered through Trinity Lutheran Church to visit patients in hospital, residents of long-term care, and those isolated at home.
Helen lived in Leader her entire life until moving to Saskatoon in 2017 with Jim to be close to their children. Her grandson Lucas was no doubt the light of her life.
Helen will be lovingly remembered by her family: Husband Jim, son Todd Cocks (Daryl Mitchell), daughter Janice Jordan (Mike Jordan), Grandson Lucas Jordan, brother Emil Eirich, sister in-laws Betty Eirich, Dorothy Cocks & Elaine Cocks, and brother-in-law Rod Canham.
She is predeceased by her infant son Richard Cocks, siblings Reinhold Eirich, Otto Eirich (wife Irene), Herbert Eirich (wife Barbara), Arthur Eirich, and Erna Parker (husband Stan), Ella Canham, and sister in laws: Carmen Eirich, Susan (Mickey) Moroz, Jean (Willie) Stolz, and brother-in-laws: Doug Cocks, Dan Cocks.
The family would like to thank Dr. Degenhart & Dr. MacMillan from St. Paul’s Hospital and the staff at The Hospice at Glengarda for the wonderful & kind care for our Mom and our Family.
Cherished Memories Funeral Services is honoured to be entrusted with Helen’s care.
